Silver Threads for KAMAZ

“KAMAZ” Inc. has received three awards at once at “The Silver Threads of Volga Region 2006” interregional contest of corporate editions and company web sites. The contest was hold within the framework of All-Russian regional advertising festival “Da Yozh”.

“Vesti KAMAZa” newspaper (Naberezhnye Chelny) was awarded as “The Best Corporate Newspaper”. Corporate “KAMAZ” magazine published by KAMAZ Inc. was given the first place in “The Best Magazine Design” nomination. And also corporate site of KAMAZ Inc. (www.kamaz.net) got the second place in its category for the best idea, structure and content introduced. All these media were presented at the contest by Department for Information Policy of KAMAZ Inc.

The contest was conducted by Cabinet of Ministers of Tatarstan, Tatarstan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Academy of Communication and Information (Moscow), “Tatmedia” RT Mass Media Agency, uncommercial partnership of “Kazan festival of regional advertising “Da Yozh” and “Media-Press” Ltd. (Perm city). A council of experts consisted of managers of the largest regional enterprises and companies, representatives of the leading PR agencies and mass media, authoritative specialists on communication and information processes. All nominees showed high professionalism and high level of corporate culture’s elements’ effectiveness.

It’s worth mentioning that KAMAZ Inc. has for the first time taken part in this prestigious contest.

The First During 30 Years

In the middle of February KAMAZ Inc. staff celebrated the birthday of the first assembled truck manufactured 30 years ago.

The core event at the celebration of 30th birthday of the first assembled truck on 16 February 2006 became the meeting at the 22nd assembly line of the Assembly plant. Lev Vasilyev, the first Director General of KAMAZ Plant, and Fikryat Tabeev, First Secretary of Tatarstan regional committee were invited as honorable guests. Vladimir Shvetsov, RT Transport Minister, and Ivan Kostin, former Director General of KAMAZ Inc. and present Director General of “Motovilikhinskye Zavody” Company, Sergey Kogoghin, Director General of KAMAZ Inc., Ildar Khalikov, Head of Administration of Naberezhnye Chelny, and Vladimir Tchaguine, Dakar-2006 winner, and others came to congratulate the staff of the Assembly plant.

When the KAMAZ truck ¹ 0000001 had been assembled it was several years operated in Bashkortostan, then bought back, restored and made a museum piece. On February 16, 2006 the truck occupied honorary place near its “grandchild” ¹ 1 759 777. That is the number of trucks assembled by the morning of that anniversary day.

Sergey Kogoghin, Director General of KAMAZ Inc.:

Thirty years long every day the main assembly line produces trucks. KAMAZ history is not in the books; it is in people. Within 30 years there has been assembled 1 760 million vehicles. They transport loads throughout Russia and other countries. Our country can’t do without them.

Lev Vasilyev, the first Director General of KAMAZ Plant:

I always come to KAMAZ with great enthusiasm, and energy I receive here remains till the next meeting. You can’t forget these minutes. Those who started working at the plant at its early years were not familiar with the word “impossible”. They worked day and night. To build up such an enterprise within 6 years is a great deed.

Fikryat Tabeev, First Secretary of Tatarstan regional committee:

These 30 years have taught us a lot. I believe there is no better truck than KAMAZ, the target is to provide promotion to the top position among leaders and provide victory among them.

Vladimir Shvetsov addressed to the meeting on behalf of Mintimer Shaymiev, President of Tatarstan: “Three decades is a life of a whole generation that conquered the virgin soil at the banks of Kama river. KAMAZ has become one of the leading companies that occupies 40% of the Russian truck market, conducting fleet renovation, improving its products’ quality. KAMAZ-Master team victories has become a tradition for international competitions. Wish the staff of KAMAZ success for the welfare of our republic!”

Vladimir Shvetsov, RT Transport Minister:

KAMAZ turned out to be “an immortal vehicle”. It is successfully operated in agriculture. The country needs the efficient and cost effective model range you are working at the moment. Cost and quality meet the today’s market demands. Dear citizens of Chelny, I congratulate you with the anniversary!

Vladimir Tchaguine, Dakar-2006 winner:

You’ve made the most important – you’ve started the line. We learnt, and will keep on learning and doing what you’ve already started. We won’t let you down.

“I am very glad that now KAMAZ has the real manager,” Vasilyev said while talking about the future of the Company. “Sergey A. Kogoghin does everything as it has to be done: production grows, new models appear. I think it’s as hard to rule the plant as it was at its early years.”

KAMAZ Truck is 30

The first KAMAZ truck was assembled in February 1976. Today, on 16 February 2006, KAMAZ workers celebrate the 30 th anniversary of the first manufactured KAMAZ truck.

The Company’s plants, departments and services prepared a number of arrangements in honor of the holiday: there will take place a great meeting at the main assembly line of the automobile plant, participate the guests from Moscow, Kazan and other cities. The meeting will address the first Director of the plant Lev Borisovich Vasilyev, who headed “KAMAZ” within 1969 – 1981.

To Cooperate For The Welfare of A Customer

The other day NEFAZ OJSC (a subsidiary of KAMAZ Inc.) and “VDL” Company (Netherlands) signed an agreement. Prior to the signing, the Dutch delegation inspected the production facilities of the Neftekamsk plant. The size of the plant, high level of production, preparedness for manufacturing new types of products left a favorable impression on the guests.

Marinus Vermelen, the Vice-President of the concern and director on buses, participated in negotiations. The target of negotiations, were low-floor buses. "VDL", a well-known producer of buses and bus chassis, is ready to offer “NEFAZ” 15 meters-long three-axial chassis for production of low-floor city buses. In future it is planned to produce “Tourist” long-distance buses and city buses on “VDL” chassis powered with a DAF engine. It is also projected to manufacture semi-trailers.

Alongside buses “VDL” is manufacturing high-tech equipment for various industries, including automobile one. The Company has 67 enterprises, located in 16 world countries. It’s not the first visit of the delegation from Netherlands to Bashkortostan. Since “NEFAZ” holds leading positions in the Russian market of large class passenger buses, the interest of "VDL" to “NEFAZ” is quite reasonable.

License For Armor

The other day KAMAZ Inc. has received four licenses from the Russian Ministry of Industry and Energy. These licenses give the Company right to develop, manufacture, repair and utilize armament and military hardware. It concerns armored vehicles and vehicles which are registered and belong to military category.

These kinds of licenses possess only a few automobile plants in Russia. This right is granted those companies that are engaged to the independent developments. Licenses are valid for 5 years.
