KAMAZ-master Counts on Youth
Semyon Yakubov, leader of the KAMAZ-master team and pilot Vladimir Chaguin, the winner of Dakar-2010 held a press conference at Interfax Information Agency on 26 January.
Summing up the results of the race in Latin America, Semyon Yakubov noted that, to his mind and in many other participants’ opinion, it had been a success that year.
“Therefore my confidence that in 2011 Dakar will return to Africa was slightly shaken, – he said. – We want to conduct it in America for the third time. For the present there is no final decision – both variants are possible.
Commenting on the success of the Russian KAMAZ crews, Semyon Yakubov paid attention to the fact that KAMAZ-master was the only sports team which had finished without losses, whereas only less than half of participants had finished because of vehicle breakdowns. In his view, this is evidence not only of an extremely difficult route, but also of equipment resources and KAMAZ experts’ potential.
Speaking about peculiarities of Dakar-2010, Vladimir Chaguin said consumption of tires had been unprecedented at that rally.
“It was almost twice as much as in Africa, we used about 70 tires, in the end we even began taking them off emergency vehicles”, – noted the pilot.
The leader of the team also told about plans for the next Dakar: “We will reshuffle the crews, – he said. – We’ll put forward young boys so that they may learn and train themselves.”
Semyon Yakubov also noted that at the finish of Dakar-2010 people had not only congratulated him and the racers of the team on the victory, but also just pelted them with numerous questions oconcerning the “Silk Way” race. The leader of the team drew the following conclusion: “Last year experience showed the value of this project for the world auto racing, vehicle manufacturers, and for countries which organize the rally.”
The Dakar-2010 rally raid made history. The KAMAZ-master team is preparing for new starts.

KAMAZ Production System Works
In 2009 KAMAZ Inc. became the leader among enterprises of Russia’s automobile industry in development of its Production System and implementation of Toyota’s principles.
On 15 January this news was announced by Yury Klochkov, First Deputy Director General – CEO of KAMAZ Inc. at a press conference devoted to the results of 2009 and prospects of the company’s production development in 2010.
Changes in the company’s management structure, logistics, purchasing and quality management systems became the most significant corporate projects for the further development of KAMAZ’s Production System (PS) in 2009. The reforms in the sphere of production organization were the result of radical changes in the company’s activities, including a great expansion of the model line of the basic production, KAMAZ trucks, to 2000 modifications and versions. During 2010 all launched projects will be fulfilled.
The measures within the bounds of KAMAZ’ PS development and already implemented projects helped to gain an economic effect of 1.6 billion roubles.
According to Yury Klochkov, in 2010 a special attention will be paid to rebuilding of the production management system, particularly in the sphere of taking and fulfilling customers’ orders.
The company adopts a great experience of its strategic partner Daimler AG in development of the purchasing system. The purchasing system of the German concern is considered to be the most developed and effective one in Europe.
Improvement of the quality management system and improvement of quality of the produced goods is the main aim in 2010. In this connection, Yury Klochkov made special mention of enterprises established jointly with the leading world producers on KAMAZ’s production basis. KNORR-BREMSE KAMA JV became the best JV among them in 2009.
KAMAZ will continue realizing projects for development of its production basis within the limits of its Production System. In Yury Klochkov’s opinion, a cab assembly department of the automobile plant already meets the strictest European requirements. The task is that in 2010 all lines of the assembly conveyor must achieve the same level.
