KAMAZ Revives Market
The plants and subdivisions of KAMAZ have fulfilled the production plan of March and the first quarter of 2010.
The automobile plant produced 2272 vehicle sets in March and 6155 sets during the first three months of 2010.
KAMAZ-Diesel produced 2823 units of its main production in March and 7273 units for the quarter. The share of delivery of engines and power units for third-party customers is growing month after month which is evidence of gradual accretion of demand for such products on the market.
The signs of future activity on the Russian automobile market become ever more apparent too. The other day the management of OJSC KAMAZ announced five-day working weeks till 1 August when the whole staff of the company will go on regular paid leave. At the same time it is planned to keep the automobile production pace on the level of 150-160 units a day. In 2010 KAMAZ means to sell 28.2 thousand trucks in all.

Microsoft and KAMAZ Become Strategic Partners
OJSC KAMAZ and Microsoft Corporation have signed a memorandum of cooperation in Kazan.
The round table meeting of Tatarstan’s regional customers’ IT directors took place in the capital of Tatarstan, where Vahe Torosyan, Vice President of Microsoft, and Nikolay Pryanishnikov, President of Microsoft Rus participated. Within the bounds of this meeting, Viktor Ganin, Director of Information Technologies Department of OJSC KAMAZ discussed with the Microsoft managers issues relating to strategic IT cooperation and extending the licence agreement. The parties agreed that their strategic partnership would offer new opportunities in using Microsoft solutions in the motor industry. Setting up a Microsoft competence centre and a training and IT skills improvement centre on the grounds of OJSC Kamaz in Naberezhnye Chelny was said to be called for, as well as implementing some joint projects financed by Microsoft.
The meeting resulted in signing the memorandum of cooperation between OJSC Kamaz and Microsoft Corporation, in which the parties claimed they intended to establish, develop and support long-term partnership. Information and consultation services and technical support within Kamaz’s priority IT projects are planned to be rendered, IT solutions for OJSC Kamaz based on Microsoft technologies will be jointly designed and promoted. NEFAZ for Saint-Petersburg and Samara
Neftekamsky Automobile Plant, the subsidiary of OJSC KAMAZ, continues working up new outlets.
The first batch of five city buses NEFAZ-5299 was delivered to Samara. The buses are eqgupped with Cummins engines and Voith automatic gearboxes which is very comfortable for city routes.
According to the contract, in all 50 buses with high capacity and Euro-3 pollution-free engines will be delivered to Samara’s Passazhiravtotrans.
The workers of the enterprise hope that it will be the start of long-term cooperation after the example of long-term partnership of NEFAZ and Saint-Petersburg and Leningrad Region where over one hundred of NEFAZ buses have been operating during several years already.
By the way, a tender for delivery of city buses was held in Saint-Petersburg in which three Russian passenger transport producers – Russian Buses (GAZ Group), Trans-Alfa (Vologda) and Neftekamsky Auto Plant participated.
After close examination Neftekamsky Auto Plant won a victory in the tender. As a result, 60 low-floor NEFAZ-5299-30-32 with Cummins engines, with special options for handicapped people will join the fleet of passenger buses of Saint-Petersburg already in the second quarter of 2010.
It is supposed that the new transport added to the fleet will improve the situation in rush hours because NEFAZ buses are able to carry over 100 passengers.

Third Lean-Forum at KAMAZ
The international conference on lean production was held at KAMAZ on 24-25 March. Its main theme is “The development of suppliers on the basis of KAMAZ production system philosophy”. It is the third lean forum which KAMAZ organized together with the Chamber of Industry and Trade of Naberezhnye Chelny.
Both the members of KAMAZ and its guests delivered speeches at the conference. In particular, Ozawa Keisuke, Vice President of Toyota Engineering Corporation, made an emphasis on production visualization in his presentation of Toyota’s production system. Igor Medvedev, Chairman of Committee for Development of KAMAZ Production System paid attention to the integration of production systems in his report. Rishat Kaviev, Director of Purchasing and Logistics Department of OJSC KAMAZ presented the supplier relationship strategy on the basis of lean principles.
On the second day of the conference the groups of participants visited workshops organized at KAMAZ-Diesel, the automobile plant, ZF KAMA JV, and OOO KAMAZenergoremont. The round-table discussions were held in the forge plant and in the directorate.
Yury Klochkov, First Deputy Director General – CEO of OJSC KAMAZ, and Igor Medvedev, Chairman of Committee for Development of KAMAZ Production System met with journalists on the eve of the international conference on lean production. Yury Klochkov noted that the instruments of the Lean Production program were aimed at the more effective use of the company’s resources: more effective work and reduced costs. To his mind, under conditions of the continuing financial recession such a policy becomes more important increasing competitiveness of products of the enterprise. Yury Klochkov expressed his opinion that not only final output producers (e.g. KAMAZ), but also all other enterprises of the production string must follow principles and instruments of lean production including those used in Daimler. It was mentioned that KAMAZ would show preference to those suppliers whose production is built on the principles of lean production.
According to the view of foreign companies’ representatives – suppliers of OEM for KAMAZ vehicles, foreign colleagues can learn from the specialists of the Russian auto giant. As a result of implemented KAMAZ Production System 1.6 billion roubles were saved, the workers of OJSC KAMAZ made more suggestions for process optimization (for the last 4 years the number of them grew 32 times as much!), and shared their advanced experience with other domestic enterprises. According to Yury Klochkov, KAMAZ Production System enabled the company to start a number of larger projects – modernization of the logistics, purchasing, quality systems, as well as to achieve the stable operation of the assembly line.
Igor Medvedev noted that the notion of “lean production” comprised more than simple saving and was a necessary tool for continuous process optimization. The policy of lean production is also based on the wrokers’ initiatives taken into account, higher motivation of the company’s each worker and chances for them to fulfill their potential.
To date OJSC KAMAZ increases collaboration with Daimler, also in the field of mutual integration of KAMAZ Production System and its German analogue Truck Operating System. At present many specialists from KAMAZ are being trained in Germany, and in perspective it is planned to organize such training in Naberezhnye Chelny.

CNH and KAMAZ Announce Industrial Joint Venture in Russia

This follows the preliminary agreement signed in October 2009 by Sergio Marchionne, Chairman of CNH Global NV and Chief Executive Officer of Fiat S.p.A., and by Sergey Chemezov, General Director of Rostechnologii, in the presence of Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.

According to the terms of the agreement, CNH will make available certain New Holland models and technologies, and will integrate the Naberezhnye Chelny plant into its global manufacturing network. Initially, CNH will focus on the production of its New Holland Agriculture and New Holland Construction brands’ models, also including components and implements. Agricultural and construction machinery, in accordance with CNH’s global know how and quality standards, will enter into production immediately for the agricultural equipment models, and by end of the year for the New Holland Construction backhoe loaders. The new plant will be operative in the fourth quarter of 2010, but the first units will start to be assembled in April 2010.
A related commercial JV between the two companies for the marketing and the distribution of equipment is to be formed in the next few months. Completion of linked transactions is subject to prior regulatory approval of the Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS).

Production Standards
The results of the checkup of production standards in organizations and subdivisions of OJSC KAMAZ for the fourth quarter of 2009 were summed up.
The commission which had checked the organizations and subdivisions of OJSC KAMAZ gave the highest marks to the staff of OAO KAMAZ-Diesel. It was given the first place and the title “Plant with High Production Standards” in the first group of contestants. Yury Gherasimov, Director General of KAMAZ-Diesel, and Khakim Mingalimov, Chairman of Labour Union Committee of the plant received the challenge cup and the honorary diploma. The staff of OOO KAMAZavtotekhnika took the second place; the staff of the automobile plant took the third one. The both enterprises received honorary diplomas.
In the second group of contestants the workers of ZAO Chelnyvodokanal and R&D Center received the same prizes and took the first and the second places, relatively.

KAMAZ Vehicles for South Ossetia
The delegation of KAMAZ visited South Ossetia.
The group of commercial and technical specialists of KAMAZ Foreign Trade Company studied the economic situation in the sphere of automobile transport, met with the representatives of the state authorities, the managers of the republic’s enterprises, and presented the company’s main products.
The KAMAZ specialists’ visit to the Caucasus resulted from realization of agreements which had been reached in the course of the theoretical and practical conference which had been held in December 2009 and in which the representatives of political and business circles of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation had participated.
The largest Russian truck producer has already got experience of cooperation with the republic. Last year the workers of KAMAZ gathered money to purchase KAMAZ vehicles and deliver them to South Ossetia as charitable assistance.

KAMAZ Increases Sales
While the automobile market continues falling in all European countries, KAMAZ remains one of few truck producers on the continent gradually increasing production and sales volumes.
Such a conclusion can be made according to the results of the first two months of 2010. The largest increase for two months made 494 units (from 2596 to 3090 units) in comparison with the analogous period of 2009, by 19.0% more than in 2009.
At the same time, 4778 units of equipment in all were sold on the Russian market of trucks 14-40 t GVW during this period (1803 units in January and 2975 units in February). This is by 263 units less than at the beginning of 2009.
The general drop by 5.2% according to the results of the two months in comparison with the analogous period of last year was caused by the fall in import when the uniform customs tariff was imposed for Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan with higher rates of duty, first of all, for second-hand artics and vehicles of up to 5 years.
The export of KAMAZ vehicles abroad still stays on the level of 2009.

KAMAZ Dealers’ Conference
On 15 March the 14th annual conference of KAMAZ official dealers was opened.
The results of work of KAMAZ dealer and service networks in 2009 were summed up, plans and tasks of the company and its partners for 2010 were set at the conference. The massive program of events provided for a detailed discussion and decision-making in all main areas of collaboration of KAMAZ and its authorized representatives in the Russian regions.
Sergey Kogoghin, Director General of OJSC KAMAZ, the leading managers and specialists of the unit of Depury Director General for sales and service, as well as the representatives of joint ventures of the company and its foreign partners and other auto components suppliers for KAMAZ participated in the conference. The managers of enterprises of KAMAZ’s commodity distribution and service network met with Sergey Kogoghin and his deputy of sales and service Yevgeny Pronin.

Business Reputation of KAMAZ
OJSC KAMAZ business reputation is estimated by national experts as one of the highest among the biggest companies operating in the territory of Russia according to the results of 2009, and properly represented in similar international ratings.
Statistics published in the first 2010 issue of Reputatiology, an international scientific review, speak for that fact.
During the crisis 2009, only 21 big companies managed to achieve positive coefficients in Russian rating of business reputation. KAMAZ is the only automotive manufacturer which is in the 6th place of this list with a 0.75 coefficient (0.96 is the highest).
Reputation Institute (New York, USA) forms international ratings of companies according to their corporate reputation. 600 most reputable large world companies are listed in its Global Reputation Pulse 2009 rating. KAMAZ is included in the list “Top 200” where it takes 72nd place. It is noteworthy that the leader of the Russian automobile industry is already in the 4th place among the Russian companies in the international rating – after Wimm-Bill-Dann, the RF Sberbank and LUKoil.

Udmurt Businessmen at KAMAZ
The delegation of authorities and businessmen from the Republic of Udmurtia visited KAMAZ.
The delegation from the neighbouring republic was headed by Oleg Radionov, Minister of Industry and Energy of the Repiublic of Udmurtia, and Sergey Molchanov, Chairman of the General Assembly of “Association of Udmurt Industrial Enterprises”. The delegation also included top managers of 26 large industrial enterprises. Tatarstan was represented by the delegation headed by Ravil Zaripov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan.

The Udmurt guests visited the automobile plant of KAMAZ where they saw how the company’s production system is developing. In the directorate they were welcomed by Yury Klochkov, First Deputy Director General – CEO of OJSC KAMAZ, and Igor Medvedev, Chairman of the Production System Development Committee. Then the delegation from Udmurtia visited enterprises located in the Kama Industrial Park Master where under the aegis of KAMAZ all conditions are created for small and middle business of Zakamye to develop.
Then the businessmen of Tatarstan and Udmurtia held a business meeting and negotiations in the course of which they discussed the issues of development of cooperation between the neighbouring republics’ enterprises. After that Ravil Zaripov and Oleg Radionov signed an agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Ministry of Industry and Energy of the Udmurt Republic.

KAMAZ for Agrarian Sector
On 12 March Yelena Skrynnik, RF Minister of Agriculture visited OOO Chelny-Broiler in Naberezhnye Chelny.
Sergey Kogoghin, Director General of OJSC KAMAZ accompanied the federal minister during the visit to the enterprise. He showed Yelena Skrynnik new models of KAMAZ vehicles specially designed for the use in the Russian agrarian sector and serially produced by KAMAZ.
KAMAZ-6520 high payload dumper with a body of 20 cubic metres, KAMAZ-65117 vehicle with side boards and 8332-030 trailer, KAMAZ-45143 agricultural dumpers with 8560-8202 trailers, and KAMAZ-65115 with 8560-1006 trailer, and KAMAZ-68904 with 8530 trailer, as well as special vehicles on KAMAZ chassis – 575092 carcass carrier and 56274 milk tanker was demonstrated at the exhibition in OOO Chelny-Broiler. Besides, the auto giant’s subsidiary, OOO Kamsky Tractor Plant (KamTZ) exhibited tractors bearing trademarks ÕÒÕ-215, ÑÕ-105, ÑÕ-105 with rigs, ÑÌÀÕ-85, CNH-8050 and CNH-9040.

KAMAZ-master Celebrates Victory in Germany
The KAMAZ-master team visited the headquarters of Daimler AG in Untertürkheim and Mercedes-Benz plant for truck production in Wörth. The sports vehicle KAMAZ was demonstrated in Stuttgart within the bounds of the visit.
The leading Russian truck producer OJSC KAMAZ is known in Germany not only due to numerous victories of the KAMAZ-master team at Dakar rallies. Since 2008 KAMAZ has been the strategic partner of Daimler Trucks. So, this year the KAMAZ-master team for the first time decided to celebrate its 9th Dakar victory in Germany.
The members of the team were welcomed at both plants of Daimler. Yaris Pürsün, Director of the Mercedes-Benz Wörth plant, Head of Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks, and Carsten Bothmann, Head of Regional strategy Daimler AG received the guests at the plant in Wörth.
This visit was conditioned by broadening of cooperation between the leader of the Russian automobile industry OJSC KAMAZ and one of the leading world truck producers Daimler. Daimler Trucks and OJSC KAMAZ are currently working on development of two joint ventures for truck production: Fuso KAMAZ Trucks Rus and Mercedes-Benz Trucks Vostok.

KAMAZ Board of Directors Meeting
On 3 March the regular meeting of KAMAZ Board of Directors took place in Moscow.
The issues of preparing for the annual general KAMAZ shareholders’ meeting were concidered according to the results of 2009. It was decided to hold it on June 25, 2010 in Naberezhnye Chelny. On the basis of the shareholders’ accepted proposals the lists of candidates for membership in KAMAZ Board of Directors and KAMAZ Auditing Committee were formed for voting at the annual general KAMAZ shareholders’ meeting.

KAMAZ: Results of February
KAMAZ’s production units executed the February production plan.
In February 2102 vehicle sets, including 22 SKD sets were made at the automobile plant, the finishing production of KAMAZ. This result is on the average by 18% higher than the January one, and it exceeds the analogous results of February 2009 by 30%. Within the first two months of 2010 there were produced trucks by 1100 units more than during the first two months of 2009.
OAO KAMAZ-Diesel delivered 2425 engines and power units to its customers, including 2061 units to the mother assembly conveyor of the automobile plant. This is almost by 20% more than in the first month of this year, and by 3% more than during the analogous period of the previous year.
The production volumes of spare parts grew by 55% in comparison with January. They were shipped to dealer and service centers, automobile service centers, trading houses and other customers for 637 million roubles in February. This is almost by 22% more than in February 2009.

KAMAZ Presents Service Center in Abu Dhabi
From the 1st to the 3rd of March of the current year OJSC KAMAZ participated in the International Security National and Resilience Exhibition (ISNR-2010) which was held in Abu Dhabi (the UAE).
The exposition of OJSC KAMAZ was demonstrated at this exhibition for the first time. Potential business partners and would-be users saw models of special equipment assembled with due account taken of the regional users’ needs.
One of these models is KAMAZ-6460 long-haul tractor (6x4) with a drawbar load of 17 tonnes and a permissible gross weight of 46 tonnes (the train with a semitrailer). This vehicle is meant for transportation of various goods as a part of the linehaul train on arterial highways. KAMAZ-6460 has got a comfortable cab with an enhanced design. The construction of the vehicle enabling the application of both domestic and imported units and assemblies ensures compliance with the current international legislation applying to vehicles of this class and purpose.
The visitors of the exhibition saw a modernized vehicle on KAMAZ-53229 chassis (6x4). The presented model of KAMAZ-53229 is equipped with an armored cab and a van. Armoring of the vehicle corresponds to B6 NATO Protection Class and effectively protects from fire of automatic weapons of Kalashnikov-type and sniper rifles (e.g. SVD). The vehicle is intended for transportation of money, values and personnel, and now it is widely used by banks and protection companies in Afghanistan and high-tension and combat operations regions.
Also a modernized vehicle on KAMAZ-53606 (4x2) chassis with a covered body was demonstrated at the exposition of KAMAZ production. This model is well-known to customers and is used as the basis for design of tens of other special equipment types. To date the construction has been modernized in accordance with current technical and environmental requirements.
The presentation of the opening ceremony of KAMAZ’s new service center in Abu Dhabi was held within the bounds of the exhibition. High guests from governing bodies of the UAE and neighbouring countries visited the event. The receiving state was represented by Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, UAE Armed Forces Chief Staff Lt. General Hamad Mohammed Thani Al Rumaithi, and His Majesty Sheikh Saif bin Zayed al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Interior. Besides the above mentioned persons, Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamed, Sudanese Interior Minister, and Sayyid Saud bin Ibrahim al Busaidi, Omani Interior Minister, as well as the representatives of Automobile Ghantoot Group – the official dealer of OJSC KAMAZ in Abu Dhabi and KAMAZ INT’L TRADING FZE – the general distributor of OJSC KAMAZ in the Middle East and North Africa were present at the ceremony.
OJSC KAMAZ was represented by Akhat Urmanov, Deputy Director General of OJSC KAMAZ of Sales and Service and Ashot Arutyunyan, Director of Marketing and Advertizing of OJSC KAMAZ.
According to His Majesty Sheikh Saif bin Zayed al Nahyan, he knows KAMAZ very well, highly appreciates appreciates qualities of sports vehicles of the KAMAZ-master team and wold like to personally test-drive them.
The representatives of OJSC KAMAZ and the UAE governing bodies cut the ribbon opening the new service center, and then the Russian delegation presented a controllable model of a KAMAZ vehicle to the new partners.
