KAMAZ: All for State and Its Security

OJSC KAMAZ participates in Interpolitex 2010, the 14th International Exhibition of Means of State Security Provision, held from the 26th to the 29th of October in Moscow, at ALL-RUSSIAN EXHIBITION CENTRE.

This exhibition annually organized by the state is one of the most important advertising and commercial events of OJSC KAMAZ. Being the largest Russian truck producer, the company is considered by the state as a guarantor of its transport security and is one of 18 strategically important enterprises of the Russian economy. Various modifications of mobile and high-tech chassis and military vehicles of KAMAZ are used by units of all power structures and security services of the state. KAMAZ has been creating and producing them for over 30 years.

KAMAZ presents two modernized models of its all-purpose serial machinery at the Interpolitex 2010 exhibition.

A KAMAZ-43269 armored vehicle (4x4) is produced in ZAO Remdiesel, OJSC KAMAZ’s subsidiary. It was decided to establish it at the beginning of the 80-ies after the leading designers of KAMAZ had visited the areas of limited forces in Afghanistan. Since then, a lot of modifications of this vehicle have been created and used by the state power structures. The armored vehicle is used to escort columns, transport crews and cargoes when executing peacemaking and other special operations instead of an armored personnel carrier, and also as a protected base unit on which models of armament and military equipment can be mounted. It was also used to transport valuable cargoes and radioactive materials.

The KAMAZ-43269 has got great advantages even over the well-known BTR-80 armored personnel carrier: it is 1.6 times cheaper, its life is longer, and labor-intensity by its repair and maintenance is lower. Operating costs of the KAMAZ-43269 are those of an army multipurpose vehicle. It enables to drive a vehicle on public roads without limits. Besides, a driver doesn’t need a special training to operate and maintain the vehicle.

By order of the head of the general tank-automotive command of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation from August 14, 2008, the Armed Forces of the RF were supplied with KAMAZ-43269 base units.

The 4326-A3 special vehicle on KAMAZ-4326-15 chassis (4x4) is meant for transportation of persons taken into custody. Its van body is assembled of sandwich panels with a vandal-proof anti-escape protection hidden from view. There is a room for an escort, one single confinement cell and two mass cells for special squads, a cab with a composing toilet. The total roominess is 31 people.

The van body is equipped with a balanced system of forced ventilation, an SGU Premier alarm loudspeaking installation in a dust- and mud-proof version, a signal-intercommunication system, an autonomous heater of the saloon, and two fire extinguishers. Exterior elements of fasteners located in the cells for special squads and the toilet can’t be dismantled by unauthorized people. Fireproof electric conductors are wired under interior paneling, so they are protected against mechanical damages and very well fastened.

MAF – 2010: New Standards of KAMAZ

KAMAZ demonstrates vehicles corresponding to the European quality standards at the International Motor Transport Forum which has opened in Moscow today.

Participants of the forum will see two models of KAMAZ modernized machinery.

First of all, this is a KAMAZ-5308 van with a restyled cab. The unique vehicle equipped with a CUMMINS 6ISBe Euro-3 285 h.p. engine and a ZF gearbox became even more attractive for customers. The payload volume of an articulated lorry consisting of a KAMAZ-5308 vehicle and a center axle trailer is 115 cu m. The producer gives a one-year unlimited mileage warranty on this vehicle, and KAMAZ’s service network offers maintenance on favourable terms (TO-1000 and TO-1 services are provided free of charge).

A NEFAZ-52996 bus of the 3rd class appeared on the roads of Russia in time. It is meant for interurban passenger conveyance. A DAF PR 256C engine, a ZF gearbox, a body with a frame, combination ventilation and a frontal heater with a defogger and electronic control (a cabin is heated due to 4 convectors) make NEFAZ-52996 an all-purpose bus effectively operating under the most difficult natural and weather conditions.

To date, KAMAZ vehicles are even more popular among customers. Thanks to the combination of the European quality and the Russian price, it competes not only with the Russian, but also with foreign manufacturers.

KAMAZ-Vostok Starts Working

Today, KAMAZ has opened an assembly plant in Khabarovsk to manufacture vehicles and special machinery bearing the trademark of KAMAZ.

The first KAMAZ assembly facility in Russia has been named OOO KAMAZ-Vostok. The launch ceremony was attended by Vyacheslav Shport, Khabarovsk Territory Governor; Alexander Sokolov, Khabarovsk Mayor; Sergey Kogoghin, Director General of OJSC KAMAZ; representatives of administrative districts of the Far Eastern Federal District, and KAMAZ top mangers.

To date, the JV rents areas of about 600 square meters at one of machine-building plants of the Far Eastern regional center and expects to produce 200-250 vehicles a year. The business project of the enterprise provides for the expansion of the production facilities up to 2,000 sq m as the assembly increases in future. Assembly sets delivered from Naberezhnye Chelny will be used for assembly of KAMAZ crew buses, vehicles with crane-manipulators, insulated vans, high-sided trucks and some other vehicles there. The mix of all-purpose parts and units is produced by local enterprises, while some special-purpose auto components will be bought in South Korea.

The work of the JV organized in such a way will lead to a considerable cost reduction of production. Up to now, transportation of outsized vehicles by rail through the whole country greatly reduced the price competitiveness of the vehicles. Besides, timing of KAMAZ’s Far Eastern customers’ orders will be reduced.

As one of the guarantors of Russia’s transportation security, KAMAZ initiated another novelty in the Russian automobile industry having organized the first assembly enterprise on the territory of the country.

New Holland Awarded Gold Medals at Agrosalon 2010, Russia

New Holland Agriculture was presented with two awards for engineering innovation by the Agrosalon 2010 Exhibition committee.

Held from the 6th to the 9th of October 2010 at the “Crocus Expo” International Exhibition Center in Moscow, Agrosalon is one of the most important agricultural fairs in Russia, and is attended by leading Russian and foreign agricultural equipment manufacturers.

New Holland Agriculture received two Gold medals recognizing its development of innovative farming technologies with practical benefits on production, for the CSX7000 combine's Opti-Fan™ system and the FR9000 forage harvester's IntelliFill™ system. New Holland has once again confirmed its proven reputation for technical ingenuity to the benefit of Russian farmers.

Opti-Fan™ system takes Gold

The New Holland CSX7000 combine is produced at the Naberezhnye Chelny plant, the manufacturing base of the recently formed industrial joint venture between CNH Global NV and OJSC KAMAZ. It offers large combine capacity in a compact frame coupled with state of the art technology.

Advanced features, such as SmartSieve™, enable the CSX7000 to maintain high productivity levels with low grain loss when working across slopes. Sensors monitor the inclination of the combine and adjust the throw of sieves to ensure that crop flows evenly through the combine and does not gather on the down-slope side.

The gold-medal winning Opti-Fan™ system takes combine performance on slopes to the next stage, with automatic compensation for continuous uphill or downhill gradients. The fan speed control system senses the combine’s angle of ascent or descent and automatically adjusts the cleaning fan speed to compensate. The operator sets the level-field fan speed and the system reduces the speed when travelling uphill and increases it when travelling downhill to optimise the material layer thickness on the cleaning shoe. No extra work is required from the driver, losses are reduced and the grain sample is improved.

Automatic Trailer Tracking gets Gold

The FR9000’s IntelliFill™ system allows the operator to fill a trailer accurately and with minimal losses, even when visibility is limited. The automatic trailer tracking system uses a specialized 3D camera mounted under the spout to guide the crop flow into the trailer. The system ensures a uniform fill whether the trailer is alongside the forage harvester, or following, in the case of starting new fields.

The spout-mounted sensor creates a distance image of the trailer and its surroundings, based on NIR (Near Infra Red) technology. Unlike conventional mono or stereo camera systems, which have poor depth perception, the New Holland tracking system can accurately position the crop flow to a distance of 20 metres.

The driver benefits from improved operating comfort and safety, and is able to concentrate on the front of the machine and increasing work rate. During long working days, and even in the dark, the automatic spout guidance will consistently reduce spoilage of crop, thus increasing the overall quality of work of the forage harvester.

New Holland Agriculture offers a full line of equipment, which includes the locally built T8000 and T9000 tractors ranging from 325 to 525 hp and the CSX7000 combine harvesters in the 272-300 hp range. Today the brand is market leader in the combine segment and is among the top players in the tractor, tillage and seeding equipment segments.

KAMAZ Returns Its Positions in Kazakhstan

OJSC KAMAZ has managed to maintain its market share under the conditions of recovering economy in the Republic of Kazakhstan. An effective campaign for clearance sale, a high demand for KAMAZ machinery and development of production of KAMAZ-Engineering Joint Venture in Kokshetau enabled KAMAZ to remain the leading player in the region.

After the long crisis, the Kazakh market of 14-40 t GVW vehicles has showed a significant growth since the beginning of 2010. During the first eight months of 2010, the industrial output in Kazakhstan increased by 10.9%. The agricultural sector is also developing: the gross output increased by 2.6%. These tendencies resulted in the increase of freight turn-over. According to non-transportation companies and entrepreneurs involved in commercial transportation, it grew by 11%. As for the volumes of wholesale and retail trade turn-over, they grew by more than 13%.

KAMAZ’s dealers in Kazakhstan offering their customers modernized products had to quickly solve the problem of excess stock resources stored up during the crisis years. The problem was effectively solved in a short term. The main decision was a clearance sale of stock to customers of Kazakhstan on favourable terms.

Cooperation of OJSC KAMAZ with the representatives of a commodity distribution network in Kazakhstan was of primary importance. Due to this well-coordinated work, KAMAZ managed to keep its position, despite a great competition in the market of Kazakhstan both with Chinese and other foreign car producers.

To date, demand for KAMAZ trucks is growing again. KAMAZ-Engineering is up and running at full capacity. Moreover, the volume of orders is so great that the question is raised to deliver finished trucks from Russia.

According to experts, in 2011, the economy of Kazakhstan will continue developing which will entail the increase of the volume of the truck market by a quarter. It will enable KAMAZ not only to keep its current positions in the region but also to successfully increase its share in the segment of heavy-duty trucks. The Russian vehicle producer continues strengthening its positions in the segments of buses, agricultural and special-purpose machinery.

NEFAZ Develops Successfully

The results for nine months of 2010 are announced by NEFAZ, a subsidiary of KAMAZ. Against the same period of 2009, the enterprise showed a higher performance.

The enterprise manufactured marketable products to the tune of 4,339 million roubles, which is more by 34.9 pct than last year, shipped its customers and rendered services for 4,254 million roubles (the growth made 124.1%). The highest growth in production was achieved in passenger bus (135 pct), crew bus (182.1 pct), bulk and towed vehicle (112.7 pct) manufacturing. All showings are compared to performances of nine months of 2009.

NEFAZ managers note that success of the current year is even clearer against a background of sharply increased prices of metal suppliers: in spite of forecast nine percent, metal practically rose in price by 30%. This jump in prices affected the economy of metal-consuming productions of machine building enterprises, including KAMAZ’s subsidiary and KAMAZ itself. But it was greatly damped down due to the implemented Production System, close cooperation with suppliers of components and materials. Economy measures turned out to be a real cost saving of 153.7 million roubles. As a result, NEFAZ worked for nine months with profits. The workers’ average wage grew by 54 pct in comparison with last September. NEFAZ plans to keep its growth in the fourth quarter of this year as well and to ship no less than 800 NEFAZ buses to the Russian regions this year.

KAMAZ Vehicles on Roads of Tajikistan

The largest Russian truck producer continues penetrating into the markets of Central Asia. The exposition of KAMAZ is presented at the TajikBuild-2010 Trade Show which has opened in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, today.

Political stability and economic expansion in Tajikistan made for OJSC KAMAZ’s stronger positions in Tajikistan. Having recovered from consequences of the long economic crisis, Tajikistan revives becoming a more active player internationally. Among most dynamically developing industries are the country’s construction industry and geological prospecting.

To date, KAMAZ takes up a predominant position in the market of the republic. The share of the Russian company is 32% of the whole Tajik truck market. Students and KAMAZ are Inseparable

On the initiative of Sergey Kogoghin, Director General of OJSC KAMAZ, students of Machine Building Educational Cluster KAMAZ-KSTU (MBEC KAMAZ-KSTU) made an excursion to several enterprises of the company.0

The main task of this educational project (KAMAZ has been realizing it for already three years) is a vocational training of personnel specially for subdivisions and organizations of OJSC KAMAZ. The project provides for a basic professional training and a higher occupational education; a practice- and problem-oriented training with the use of modern teaching methods, and also with the account taken of KAMAZ’s requirements to young designers’ and technologists’ competence. Just because of this, the top manager of the corporation decided to get to know its future workers better and to acquaint them with the latest achievements of the leader of the Russian automobile industry.

The first-, second- and third-year students of MBEC KAMAZ-KSTU visited an assembly department of trial production of Research and Development Center KAMAZ. Danis Valeev, Design Manager of OJSC KAMAZ, Director of R&D Center, told the guests about a restyled cab, the further developments of KAMAZ vehicles, and also – about modern methods of product designing.

Then, the students were invited to the automobile plant where they met with the managers of the cluster and departments of OJSC KAMAZ. They asked a great number of questions mainly concerning the problems of employment, simultaneous mastering of the university’s educational program and acquiring of practical skills at the plant, organization of an educational process. To add to this, students not only asked questions, but also expressed their opinion how to improve the work of the cluster.

The finale of the event was a meeting with Sergey Kogoghin, Director General of OJSC KAMAZ. The students asked the company’s top manager questions about competition between KAMAZ and the Chinese producers, promotion of KAMAZ’s new models, in-depth training courses organized for the company’s employees abroad, and Sergey Kogoghin’s recipe for success.

Summarizing the results of the meeting, Director General thanked the students for their active participation. The author of the most interesting question was awarded with a souvenir.

The representatives of the company were glad that, even wording their questions, the students, despite their age and course, don’t separate themselves from KAMAZ and are willing to link their future with it. And it means that the decision to establish Machine Building Cluster KAMAZ-KSTU made by the managers of OJSC KAMAZ and Sergey Kogoghin two years ago was right.

Daimler-KAMAZ JV Starts Assembling Mercedes-Benz Trucks in Russia

On 30 September 2010, assembly of the first Mercedes-Benz truck was launched in Russia. The first truck assembled at the production line of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Vostok in Naberezhnye Chelny is Mercedes-Benz Actros 1841 LS – the leader of the brand in the segment of international transportation.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks Vostok, a joint venture between Daimler AG and OJSC KAMAZ, was established in early 2010 as a general importer of Mercedes-Benz trucks and special-purpose vehicles to Russia. Its priority tasks were not only to expand the dealer network and the network of authorized service partners, but also to organize assembly of Mercedes-Benz trucks in Russia.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks Vostok chose a production site in Naberezhnye Chelny to carry out the last task. During 10 months, the operating personnel were trained in Germany, original equipment enabling to assemble up to 4,500 vehicles a year was bought and constructed. On September 30, the assembly line was launched.

"This is a milestone in the history of Mercedes-Benz,” said Boris Billich, chief executive officer of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Vostok, “for the first time, a Mercedes-Benz vehicle is produced in Russia. It shows how much we are interested in boosting our share of the Russian market. This is also an important landmark in the history of cooperation of shareholders of OJSC KAMAZ and Daimler AG who combined their efforts to strengthen positions of Mercedes-Benz trucks in Russia."

The model line of trucks which will be assembled at the plant of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Vostok in Russia is almost unlimited. Besides Actros and Axors, the plant will produce Mercedes-Benz Ategos and specialized Zetros and Unimog trucks, when demand is strong enough. It also plans to launch the production of restyled Axor and Atego trucks as early as 2011; these trucks were presented at the IAA-2010 exhibition in Hannover.

Trucks assembled in Russia will be of high quality, just like those produced at plants of Germany or Turkey. Jan Bredack, technical director of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Vostok, said, “Mercedes-Benz has been successfully assembled vehicles in more than 50 countries for 40 years. It makes us confident that the well trained employees and 100% original components will enable to comply with high quality standards of Mercedes-Benz.”

According to Konstantin Kogoghin, director of sales and marketing of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Vostok, conformity to quality standards is the main principle of the company: “We seek not only to increase the quantity of products, but also to improve the quality of our dealers’ and service partners’ work. And we are sure that, producing vehicles in Russia, we will be able to satisfy our clients’ requirements even better.”

KAMAZ Revives Market

By the end of September 2010, KAMAZ has fulfilled the plan for vehicle sets production 100%.

The units of a single technological cycle hit the ground running: 3,631 vehicle sets, including 3,348 trucks, were made in the first working month after the personnel’s corporate leave. The month’s plan for vehicle sets production is 100% fulfilled. In all, 23,910 units have been produced since the beginning of the year, as many as for the whole year of 2009. Besides, spare parts were produced to the tune of 506.5 million roubles in September – by 37 million more than it had been planned, even though the plan had been increased in view of customers’ needs. KAMAZ-Diesel produced and shipped its customers 4,203 engines and power units (+242 units in addition to those planned) in September. Over 28.2 thousand units were manufactured for three quarters.

Dealers, service centers, corporate and other customers of KAMAZ received spare parts for the sum of more than 7.1 billion roubles this year, including products for 937 million roubles during the past month.

Even briefly surveying production of various vehicle families and models, one can see the signs of a market revival and a growth of demand for KAMAZ vehicles. Thus, an “anti-crisis” line of modernized vehicles (KAMAZ-65115, -65116, -65117, -65111) which assumed the leadership just during the past downswing holds its positions to date, too. Over 1,200 units of these models were produced in September – by 9% more than in July before the leave. However, production of higher capacity vehicles (about ten models on the basis of KAMAZ-6520) considerably increased during this period of time. Almost 500 units of these heavy vehicles, which, as a rule, create market trends and influence the company’s financial-and-economic performance, were produced in September – by 15% more than in July. Output of all-wheel-drive vehicles (KAMAZ-43118, -43114, etc.) in the month under review also proves that customers’ demand for KAMAZ’s main products is growing.

We Pay Respect to Elderly People…

The International Day of Older Persons will be celebrated on Friday.

Concern for elderly people has always been an inseparable part of KAMAZ’s social policy. To date, more than 6,700 pensioners work at the automobile plant. The number of non-working pensioners – our former employees – is over 22.5 thousand people. According to the Social Package of OJSC KAMAZ, they are given 11.3 million roubles in 2010 as a targeted social assistance. Veterans’ council functions actively.

It should be noted that the pensioners of KAMAZ live an eventful life. Many of them attend courses of computer literacy at the third generation university. Design and psychology are the most popular courses of the university. Pensioners create their clubs, celebrate holidays and organize competitions at plants. They don’t miss the city’s events either. A recent triumph at the contest “Supergrandma-2010” witnesses to this fact.

At their own expense, subdivisions and companies of OJSC KAMAZ organize charitable events for pensioners – they conduct amateur concerts, tea parties, red carpet meetings with the city’s authorities, organize trips to recreation centers, and present sanatorium vouchers.

KAMAZ on Tatami Again

Today, a traditional judo youth championship – the 24th tournament for KAMAZ’s prizes and the 18th team meeting of judoists “All Stars of Tatarstan” is held in Naberezhnye Chelny’s Olympiysky sports complex.

Year in, year out, these tournaments are organized at the end of September or at the beginning of October in honour of a professional holiday – the Machine Builder’s Day; and OJSC KAMAZ is their main sponsor. The first such meeting on a tatami of the Olimpiysky sports complex was held as far back as 1977, but, in the 90-ies, the tradition was interrupted for the whole ten years (from 1992 to 2001). Tournaments were recommenced in 2002 on the initiative of Sergey Kogoghin, Director General of OJSC KAMAZ – in the first year after he had been appointed to this position. Sergey Kogoghin is the USSR Master of Sports in Judo and Sambo, and in the 80-ies he was a member of Tatarstan’s team.

As before, the current tournaments gathered many talented sportsmen aged 14-16: 110 judoists arrived in Naberezhnye Chelny from Izhevsk, Magnitogorsk, Sterlitamak, Tuymazy, Chelyabinsk, Uralsk (Kazakhstan), and also – Tatarstan’s cities and regional centers where this kind of the Eastern martial art is cultivated.

All day long, the Japanese words very well known to all judo-lovers are heard in the main sports hall of the Olimpiysky complex.

The tournaments will be closed with a face-off meeting of Tatarstan’s judo stars tomorrow.
